Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never heard of it often think it is an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to be an actor, However, following a dramatic increase in size, her friends weren't able to dance along with her. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I surpassed the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher which pushed her in the right direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the annual school production. After a few auditions her options, she was eventually the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions on the big and small screens, attracting the greatest media attention after she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian actor during the season 1 of the series and not seen much.
